President's Message
Dr. Mahendra Narwaria Bariatric, GI and Robotic Surgery
Dear AI AARO Family,
It is a great honour and privilege to be elected as the President of the All-India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity (AI AARO). Nevertheless, it brings with it the great responsibility of carrying forward the good work done by the founders, earlier presidents, executive members and the entire team members.
Evolution and development go hand in in hand. AI AARO is one of the best platforms that has brought in the true face of obesity in society. My major responsibility as the President of the association is to develop the righteous vision and mission with the guidance of all the respected seniors in our society.
In addition to public awareness, offering knowledge and training to clinicians and specialists involved in the care of people suffering from obesity and diabetes, AI AARO will continue to take the lead in the field through meetings, CME events, conventions, courses, etc.
Obesity is a double burden on both health and the economy, with scientific enhancements like dietary therapy and medical management being seen to be effective measures. Furthermore, metabolic surgery, though not a recent concept, is approved by various respected organizations and is showing tremendous acceleration in combating obesity and related issues.
The pathophysiology of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related disorders though is complex, but has been unveiled to some extent in the last few years. AI AARO together with the Journal of Metabolic Research (JOMR), jointly take responsibility for exploring and evolving science and making it effective enough to reach the masses. Research enhancements have brought in depth of understanding of the gastrointestinal tract and its relationship to hunger, satiety, and weight balance. Gut peptides, hormones, and flora are being researched systematically, and many novel less-invasive therapies are being evaluated.
Obesity is a multifactorial disease, and hence, integration of all the faculties of medicine involved in its treatment under the AI AARO will be the ongoing task of the association, and I assure you that I will give my best to our society and the population to be served.
